Eleven more barangays in Iloilo City will soon benefit from rainwater harvesting facilities as part of the city’s continuing efforts to strengthen community resilience and ensure sustainable access to clean water.
Mayor Raisa Treñas signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Signpost Philippines, Inc. and representatives of participating barangays on December 11, marking the rollout of Phase 2 of the Rainwater Harvesting Facilities project.
The MOA signing was attended by officials from Barangays Calaparan and Sooc in Arevalo; Barangays Balantang, Buntatala, Camalig, Lanit, and Tacas in Jaro; Barangays Ingore and San Isidro in Lapaz; and Barangays Ortiz and Veterans Village in the City Proper district.
Signpost Philippines, Inc. was represented by its Director, Ms. Febie Ibojos, and Administrative Officer, Ms. Dina Hormigoso.
Under the agreement, the Iloilo City Government will provide project funding, technical supervision, and monitoring support. The partner barangays, meanwhile, will allocate land for the facilities, lead community participation, and oversee the operation and maintenance of the rainwater harvesting systems.
The project aims to help communities better manage water resources, particularly during periods of water shortage, while promoting sustainable and climate-resilient solutions at the barangay level.
